Sewing Machine Essentials

Get to know your sewing machine.

This workshop is designed to dovetail with our ongoing upholstery classes. See the Sewing Machine Workshops page for more info on schedule.

Modern sewing machines have many functions which we can often overlook or not even know they're there.

Become best friends with your sewing machine and understand how to maximise its functionality, particularly in relation to upholstery.

Fabric & Finishes

How to select the right fabric for your project.

Fabrics can give a tired looking item a complete new lease of life. However, it's not just as straightforward as seeing something you like.

Some fabrics aren't appropriate for upholstery; they may wear quickly or have a weave that wont work when moulded. Some fabrics can be difficult to align and even sew.

We can provide help and advice on choosing the right fabric for your item and can even advise on colour combinations, including paint for the woodwork.

This half-day workshop will provide you with all you need to select the best fabric for your project.
